For the last several years, I have been working on developing a series of pieces inspired by the moon. The moon is a powerful feature of our world. Its presence impacts our oceans, but it also has an effect on us.
People all over the world stopped what they were doing to watch the recent solar eclipse. For those of us who were lucky enough to see its full expression in person, I’ve heard that it was an almost spiritual experience. The hair on their arms stood on end. Someone else said that it reminded her of how small she was, and how massive the world she lives in. The moon humbled her.
There is a power and beauty to the moon that effects everything and everyone around us.
So the pieces in this series are inspired by the moon. Its magnificence and its mystery. We think we understand what we’re looking at, but in only takes an event like the solar eclipse to remind us: we have no idea.
3 Singing Birds in Whistler BC (a beautiful boutique which features handcrafted pieces) will be debuting my Moon necklace and earrings today!
If you can’t make it up to their shop, you’ll also have the ability to check them out at my September Markets. You can find my market schedule here. You'll be able to purchase this design through my online store in the new year.
For my very first backpacking trip, I connected with a good friend (and seasoned traveller) to explore Colombia. I was in University at the time, getting my degree in Biology. I hadn’t even started to consider a career as a jewelry designer, although looking back… I think this experience may have ignited a flame.
