Black Owned Businesses We Love

Support Black Owned Businesses

At Devi Arts Collective, we love an opportunity to celebrate our community. We are a black-owned female-founded business and we love to highlight other BIPOC businesses. February is Black History Month and as such, I would love to bring attention to a few of my favorite Black-owned businesses. We are honored to feature some (but certainly not all) of my favorite brands, run by women working hard to build their businesses and create brands grounded by community and connection.

I am so proud to have found my way in the arts and business space, I get to do what I love each and every day for a living. I am grateful for those who have supported me along my journey. I hope you, my amazing Devi family, will take the time to learn more about these businesses and give them some love!

Black Owned Businesses We Love

Kate and Frances

Kate began KATE&FRANCES DESIGN after she realized she could not find the type of clothing she wanted for herself. She wanted a style that was versatile and comfortable! Designed and manufactured locally in Vancouver, BC, Kate’s brand is sustainable and made to order. I love the essentials collection, the loose fit and flair of personality are perfect for my everyday life!

Mafi Mafi

Mafi Mafi is a celebrated social enterprise, a sustainable fashion label with a mission to disrupt the global fast fashion industry. Creator Mahlet Afework started Mafi Mafi from a love of hip-hop aesthetics and her Ethiopian heritage. They produce one ready-to-wear collection per year, using hand-woven cloth made by local artisan weavers, providing them with livable wages, apprenticeships, and personal development. I love everything in their collection, but the scarves specifically are so gorgeous!

Cup of Té

Launched in 2018, Cup of Té was founded by Taylor Lindsay-Noel with the goal of providing the world’s finest loose-leaf organic teas and teaware. After a devastating accident, while training as an Olympic gymnast left her paralyzed, she transformed her situation. She launched Cup of Té and donated $1 from each Starter Kit to mental health awareness. I love the Cran-Apple flavor, and the cast iron teapots are just perfect.

Mumgry

Mumgry was created after Lillian was grocery shopping while hungry and pregnant! Unable to find the types of snacks she wanted to help with nutrition during pregnancy and beyond, she created something to keep Mums energized and nourished throughout the motherhood journey! What an amazing story right? These snacks are plant-based, low in sugar, high in protein, iron and calcium. I recommend the Mumgry Mini Trio to try out all the delicious flavors!

Lys Beauty

Lys Beauty was founded by Tisha Thompson and is the first Black-owned Sephora Clean Makeup brand. I love how committed they are to a multicultural approach with ingredients that are beneficial to, not just covering the skin. I love all of their products, but appreciate their bundles like the No Makeup, Makeup Essentials Bundle which has everything I need in one set!

We hope you are as inspired by these brands and stories as we are! We would love to see you sharing, liking and loving these brands on social!  Follow along with our blog and newsletter so you stay up to date with Devi Arts Collective news and updates.

Cheers, Bayoush, Founder and Designer of Devi Arts Collective
